I found Zee Avi’s CD in the Music Store today. Its out. So’s her music video “Bitterheart”. It’s an awsome song and a cute video. Totally her style.
I picked it up, and i read the names, the copyrights, the produced date and in what studio, to whole legal printing on the back of the CD. The plastic wrapped around it. Unopened.
I looked at it for awhile. And my thoughts took me back to when i was 13 years old.
I was at home. In the living room. Watching Jewel Kilcher’s music video “Who Will Save Your Soul” on MTV. My brother was sitting beside me. “I really like her voice.” He said. Me too, i thought to myself. That was the day, when i knew that this is what i wanted to do. That was my dream. prolly still is. If its still there in my future. I wanted to be, a succesful, song-writer.
I’m 26 now. And i honestly am just happy with the gigs i get to play for now. I got my name on a billboard. I got the oppertunity to play at Homegrown Music Showcase. I got to play for Wani’s event. I got to play a No Black Tie. I got to know awsome musicians like Reza Salleh, Mia Palencia, Ash and Ray, Nicole, Ywenna, Ana Rafalli, Poet – Fynn Jamal, Jerome kugan, many many others….Got to play at the same gig as Pete Teo. Met many many aspiring young singer songwriters who are beginning their journey to struggle into the Music Industry. I got to perform with friends. I got to perform on stage with my Boyfriend playing the Bass guitar. I got the creator of “Aku Hidup Dalam Blues” – Abang Aie to create my demo cover album and he befriended me. Get to see a fellow animator start to get more exposure in the indie local scene… And all this, makes me happy. The pay isnt great, but it makes my heart beat to its own rythm. And it makes me feel awsome.
Maybe there was a point where i wished to be a Rockstar. Maybe somewhere deep down i still do with to be a Rockstar. But, if making music, and playing gigs like this already makes me feel super Thankful, then i’m all good.
I’m just proud to know that another Malaysian Indie singer-songwriter who writes and sings with Honest melodies in her heart got to achieve the dream, i onced dreamt of before. That’s just good enough for me.
People like Zee Avi deserves this spotlight. She is Awsome.

I love Jewel during her early days. Got her first two CDs. It still struck a sentimental chord in my heart whenever I hear them.
